Socio-economic
At Resource Futures, we understand the influence that socio-economic
factors (such as housing type, affluence, age and gender)
have in determining behaviour.
Socio-economic research and waste management
It is widely recognised that socio-economic factors have a
great impact with regard to interaction with and acceptance
of recycling services.
Many of our research projects begin with socio-economic
classification of residents and then proceed using this information
to find out more about the different audiences and how to
serve and communicate with them efficiently and effectively.
At Resource Futures, we regularly undertake socio-demographic
research to help clients anticipate and plan for likely reactions
to, acceptance of and issues with the following elements:
- classification of populations into their socio-economic
categories
- implementation of new recycling infrastructures
or services
- addition of new materials to existing recycling
schemes
- likely participation in new recycling schemes
- likely
reaction to changes to recycling schemes
- reasons why existing
recycling schemes are not performing effectively.
Application and recommendation
We regularly carry out, analyse
and apply the results of socio-economic research
(using ACORN, MOSAIC categories and taking into account
indices
of deprivation),
for clients such as local authorities or community
groups to effectively anticipate and target the
design, roll
out and promotion of a broad range of projects,
such as new
recycling schemes, additional materials for existing
recycling schemes,
changes to recycling services and changes to residual
services.
Our consultants analyse and cross reference socio-economic
data with other data sources, to interpret and present the
findings and conclusions into a full report, including recommendations
for the implication and application of the findings.
Our consultants can also be called upon to undertake presentations
to key audiences if required.
